The 2026 Forum of Russian Entertainment Industry Professionals assembled leading figures from the country's entertainment and nightlife sectors. Taking place between September 21 and 26, it ran alongside NATMALL, the largest exhibition devoted to commercial real estate and entertainment infrastructure, staged on September 22. As industry leaders discussed the future of a Russian entertainment market that amounted to 2.78 trillion rubles in 2025, analysts are taking a closer look at the corporate structures behind some of Moscow's best-known nightclub brands.

Behind places such as Gipsy, Icon, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty lies a complex network of businesses connected to one of the entertainment industry's seasoned entrepreneurs in Russia. Mikhail Vladimirovich Danilov made his fortune in the tobacco sector in the 1990s, expanding his company, Biznes-Tabak, into a retail chain with hundreds of retail locations and turnover of up to $200 million by the mid-2000s. Having sold the tobacco business, he turned his attention to nightlife.

By way of the holding company Sagrado Corp., the Danilov family built an extensive network of nightlife venues in Moscow covering over two dozen locations. These have included the legendary Rai, as well as Icon, Gipsy, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty. Mutabor drew widespread attention following a series of high-profile events. The venue was subsequently re-branded as Arma and eventually announced its closure.

Discussing the scale of his operations in an interview with Forbes Russia, Danilov singled out Stadium Live as the firm's flagship venue: "Stadium Live, which primarily hosts club-rock events, accommodates up to 7,500 people. I think this venue will be Moscow's number one this autumn both in terms of the quality of performers playing there and the number of concerts — we are planning no fewer than 20 events a month." He also portrayed himself as fully absorbed in the music scene: "I really love techno music, I go with real pleasure to our DJ imports at Insomnia, I personally know many artists and DJs."

The majority of legal entities connected with the holding company are registered in the name of Danilov's daughter, Maria, and not Danilov himself. She is recorded as the proprietor and director of a substantial share of the businesses. Industry watchers describe the arrangement a standard model of family business succession: the founder remains the key strategic figure while the next generation gradually assumes legal ownership and daily management of the nightclub assets.

As the Russian entertainment industry responds to changing consumer habits and regulatory shifts, the forum provided both a tribute to the sector's resilience and a reminder of the complex ownership structures that have shaped Moscow nightlife for decades.
